Miscellaneous Information:

My Name is Lauren E. Owen and I am the Executive Administrative Assistant to the President of Sisseton Wahpeton College. I have an A.A.S. degree in Law Enforcement Technology but have also studied Federal Indian Law Paralegal studies & Criminal Justice. I am also a tribal court advocate here at the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate and am a trained mediator from UND’s Conflict Resolution Center. I have a healthy career in the criminal justice field having worked for Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, the South Dakota Department of Corrections and the South Dakota Unified Judicial System. I have also been an Associate Manager at Dakota Sioux Casino and in moving back to the SWO in 2012, I began my career as an Executive Administrative Assistant for the Sisseton Wahpeton College’s Presidents. I was the legal secretary/Judicial Coordinator for the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate’s Judicial Committee and Executive Assistant/Office Coordinator for the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate’s Tribal Chairman’s office. At this time in my life, with all the wonderful experiences I’ve gained through my education, I am happy to just be assisting the President of Sisseton Wahpeton College.

I have a wonderful family, two Son’s and two Daughters. My oldest daughter Chasity passed away in 2013 at the age of 22 and is missed dearly. My oldest Son Cole, 28, is a Police Officer. My daughter Christina, 24, works in the medical field and attends college. My younger son Connor is in the 11th grade and is a young entrepreneur having trademarked his gaming handle, “Clammier Toast”, marketing clothing & apparel. As a Blessing from my children, I have 4 amazing grandchildren! Jade 10 years old, Sophie 9 years old, Phelix 3 years old and Theodore 1 year old. They are the sweetest children ever and joys of my life!

In my home life, I stay very active in or Dakota Sioux Traditional way of life. I am pipe carrier and a sun dancer in which I am very proud of. I love the Dakota Way of life and live by the teachings of our elders and ancestors daily. I love the traditional aspects that Sisseton Wahpeton College has integrated into its teaching methods and practices for our students here. I would encourage any new student prospect to come and join this amazing team as a foundation to a bright future. Many of our Tribal Leaders started here at Sisseton Wahpeton College in which have done great things for our tribe. Sisseton Wahpeton College is building our future generations on the dreams of our elders.
