Miscellaneous Information:

Lane Azure graduated high school in Washington where he became a heavy equipment operator and worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs before he moved back home to Devils Lake, ND where he began attending college to earn a BS in Mathematics Education. He began his teaching career in South Dakota on the Cheyenne River Reservation as a high school mathematics teacher, soon transferring to the Spirit Lake Nation as a mathematics instructor. After several years of working in higher education, Dr. Azure earned his MS and PhD degrees. His 20+ years in education has been very successful in authoring grants from many funding agencies. His desire to learn more about educational accreditation stimulated him into becoming a peer reviewer for the Higher Learning Commission and thereafter a lead reviewer for PK12 schools with Northwest Evaluation Association. Much of Dr. Azure’s experience is pioneering STEM programs that are designed to increase capacity of tribal colleges and students. Having authored “Counting Coup with Western Education in a Post-Assimilated Paradigm: A Qualitative Research Study on American Indian Success”, Dr. Azure continues to attribute Indigenous language and culture as powerful foundations to Native American success in education.
